Indigo is the rebel of the natural dye world, requiring special handling and consideration.Unlike other natural dyes, indigo offers a unique range of blue and blue-purple shades that can be difficult to replicate with other natural materials.
Indigo is the name of the plant that contains the most amount of indigo dye, but it is also the name of the compound that gives us the blue color. Various plants contain the indican compound which is the precursor to indigo in their leaves. The plant containing the highest concentration of indigo precursor indican in its leaves is the Indigofera tinctoria plant, which we call indigo.

Our answer is a resounding yes - it's definitely possible to print with natural dyes! In fact, printing techniques are some of our favorite methods for natural dyeing. We've tried many different techniques, such as brush applications, stencils, and wood printing, and have had successful results with all of them.
